Four of the best artists in contemporary jazz form a supergroup where virtuosity and good taste converge, blending modernity with tradition and a versatile yet natural attitude. Travel companions, individually they have set trends and influenced musicians from diverse generations and backgrounds. For example, guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel, with a characteristic, vibrant sound recognizable from the first note. Throughout his extensive career, he has released emblematic works and collaborated with personalities such as Paul Motian and Joe Henderson. On the other hand, saxophonist Mark Turner also possesses a unique, singular style that has led him to release albums with ECM, among many other achievements. As for Ben Street, he has been a bassist for Andrew Cyrille, Billy Hart, and many others. Finally, Jeff Ballard, a reference drummer, is currently part of Brad Mehldau’s trio. Together, they coincided on recordings such as ‘Heartcore’ (2003) by Kurt Rosenwinkel. They have also visited Barcelona many times, especially in their early days, at the Jamboree and, in some cases, releasing their first works with the Fresh Sound label. Without a doubt, we are witnessing one of the standout performances of Mas i Mas 2024.
