Californian Nicole McCabe is one of the most promising young saxophonists on the Los Angeles scene. Educated at the University of Southern California, she was a student of Vince Mendoza, Patrice Rushen and Russell Ferrante. At the Jamboree she will present the album ‘Landscapes’, recorded in quartet format and released by the Barcelona label Fresh Sound. On ‘Landscapes’, McCabe goes back to the roots of modern jazz to build her own excellent, fresh, elegant style with special melodic sensitivity. McCabe is a musician with prolific activity on the LA scene, where she is involved in projects a long way from orthodox jazz, led by labels such as Brainfeeder and Minaret. In 2020 she released an ‘introducing’ album with musicians of the stature of George Colligan, Jon Lakey and Alan Jones. Most recently, she studied at the Kennedy Center (Washington) with Jason Moran. A winner of awards in Europe and the US, Nicole McCabe has also worked with Dave Binney, John Escreet, Anna Butterss and Henry Solomon, among others.
