From Amsterdam comes this octet representing the best of the new European jazz scene. Led by drummer Guy Salamon and featuring performers from various places, including Catalans Lucas Martínez and Xavi Torres. Salamon leads a band with original compositions and a style based on exploration, fusion, and the search for balance, explaining that it combines “folkloric melange, wild improvisation, ‘visual music,’ and comforting humor.” The Dutch newspaper NRC described the proposal as “kaleidoscopic and brilliant madness,” with compositions “ranging from swing to punk, through polka.” With this unique formula, the Guy Salamon Group has won the Keep And Eye competition, one of the world’s most prestigious for emerging bands, and has performed at renowned events such as the North Sea Festival and the Jazzahead! and Jazz I Am fairs. At Jamboree, they will present a new album titled ‘Free Hugs’.
