‘Cluster’ is a word with different meanings, depending on whether we are talking about computing, astronomy, genetics, chemistry or music. The multi-instrumentalist Sergi Sirvent has composed a suite with eight pieces based on the sound of clusters and has added two more compositions: ‘Super Cluster’, inspired by the astronomical term’, and ‘Ataràxia, a concept developed by the Epicureans, the Stoics and the skeptics. After making a first trio album with Jordi Gaspar and Jordi Gardeñas, ‘Cants Lliures’ (Selfish, 2021) signs a second work with the musicians with whom he formed the rhythmic base of the Octopussy Cats. Plegats embark on a fascinating journey through the most contemporary jazz, where the composition has a specific weight, and the bass guitar – which replaces the double bass – provides the ideal timbre to clearly hear the incredible sounds of the ‘Clusters’. Ah!, a cluster is, according to Wikipedia, an “aggregation consisting of a group of at least three adjacent notes at a distance of 2aM or 2am.”
