The young members of Corto.Alto, a collective from Glasgow led by multi-instrumentalist, composer and visual artist Liam Shortall, are among the new sensations on the UK scene. Shortall has been working as a trombonist, guitarist and producer since the age of 16, and has collaborated with major Scottish artists. In Corto.Alto, he works with musicians from different trends and origins seeking what he describes as an original sound in the jazz field and beyond. The result is fast-paced music, with elements of jazz, funk, soul, drum ‘n’ bass and other genres. Colleagues at the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival describe them as an “explosive band, made up of talented musicians”, featuring “the best of Glasgow’s vibrant jazz scene”. A true revelation from the current jazz scene on the final lap of Mas i Mas ‘23.
