The saxophonist and composer Gorka Garay, one of the great jazz players of his generation, presents the third reference of ‘The Hunter of Light’ at the Jamboree. Under this name, he published a quintet album in 2013, released by the Quadrant label and with collaborators of the stature of Marco Mezquida. ‘The Light Hunter, Vol. 2’ (Quadrant, 2019) was recorded as a trio with pianist Joan Monné and double bassist Dee Jay Foster. Now, under the name Gorka Garay Strings, the Barcelona musician is entering new sonic territories; Specifically, he fuses the jazz quartet with a classical string quartet and presents an album titled ‘Third Moon of Jupiter’ (Microscopi). Passionate about experimentation, far from all kinds of conventions, Gorka Garay manages with this work to forge a “mutant jazz,” he says, with which he reaches majestic sound universes.
