Aaron Goldberg piano · Omer Avital double bass · Ali Jackson drums
Why do we like Yes! Trio?, the promo sheet for their third and final album, Spring Sings, asks rhetorically. Well, one of the first reasons is that “this group embodies everything that excites us about the history of jazz without giving the impression of wanting to reproduce it but to revive it”. And another reason “Because the three personalities associated with this trio are so different on paper that we like to see in their long association (30 years) an example of what the great Max Roach – who was one of Ali’s mentors Jackson – called it “an extremely democratic form of music.” We very much agree: pianist Aaron Goldberg, double bass player Omer Avital and the already mentioned Ali Jackson on drums propose one of the most exciting trios in contemporary jazz, full of references, ambitious and playful spirit, full of joy. In a terrible world, spring still sings.
