Martín Leiton doublebass · Santi de la Rubia sax · Toni Saigi piano · Enric Fuster drums
Both jazz and Latin American folk music infuse every note from Martín Leiton’s double bass. After years of experience, the Barcelona-based quartet he leads continues to consolidate its own project and unique sound in a new recording. The Martín Leiton Quartet, featuring Santi de la Rubia, Toni Saigi, and Andreu Pitarch/Enric Fuster, once again showcases the extraordinary quality of their musical dialogue. Inspired by jazz greats like Thelonious Monk, Wayne Shorter, and Duke Ellington, Martín Leiton’s latest work, Caravana (Seed Music, 2023), adds to these undeniable influences with the spirit of Latin American music and the whirlwind of Gnawa and Tuareg rhythms and melodies. This further enriches and powers Leiton’s fifth album as a leader. Caravana has been presented in Madrid, InJazz (Rotterdam), Jazzeñe, at L’Auditori de Barcelona, the Jazz Festival of L’Estartit, Opus Jazz Club (Budapest), the Barcelona Jazz Festival, among other prominent venues.
