The Dam Jawn — A Collective Jazz Journey Across Borders
The Dam Jawn is a vibrant collective of five young international musicians from the Amsterdam jazz scene who first connected in Philadelphia. Having already released two acclaimed albums—Master Street (Challenge, 2023) and Forward! (Cellar Live!, 2024)—they now present their third album, featuring special guest, acclaimed American trumpeter Jeremy Pelt. Pelt has shared the stage with jazz legends such as Ravi Coltrane, Roy Hargrove, Louis Hayes, Greg Osby, and Cassandra Wilson.
Refusing to be confined by any single style or genre, The Dam Jawn constantly pushes musical boundaries in search of fresh sounds. The group features two of Spain’s most distinguished jazz talents abroad—Joan Fort (guitar) and Martin Diaz (alto saxophone)—alongside German bassist Philip Lewin and Dutch musicians Frank Groenendijk (tenor saxophone) and Nitin Parree (drums).
Operating as a small democracy, The Dam Jawn thrives on the five voices and visions of its members, with no single leader. Each composition is a dialogue—a shared space where every member contributes equally. Their performances become living conversations and shared challenges, reflecting the dynamics of society itself. Together, they create music that is alive, honest, and open to infinite possibilities.
