Paul Cornish Trio — A creative alliance with the pulse of Los Angeles
People have been talking —and very positively— about Paul Cornish for some time now. A pianist from Houston based in Los Angeles, we saw him at the festival in 2023 as part of the Joshua Redman Group—the same year he was a finalist in two of the most prestigious jazz competitions: the 2023 Herbie Hancock International Jazz Piano Competition and the American Pianists Association’s Jazz Competition. Now, thanks to our collaboration with the Jamboree, we’ll see him leading his trio in the presentation of his debut album on Blue Note, You’re exaggerating, alongside Jermaine Paul on double bass and Jonathan Pinson on drums.
Let Don Was, president of Blue Note, say it best:
“When you listen to Paul Cornish’s new album and examine the nuances of his playing, you will find that he is one of the most innovative pianists to come along in quite a while —with a musical signature that is taller than the JPMorgan Tower in Houston.”
There’s little more to add. Or maybe there is: You’re exaggerating is one of those truly unforgettable records that signals the beginning of a career we expect to be extraordinary. And to put Don Was’s passionate hyperbole in context: the JPMorgan Chase Tower in Houston is nearly twice the height of the tallest building in Barcelona…
