Somewhere between jazz, blues and soul, Denise King is considered one of the most important vocalists on the soul and jazz scene in Philadelphia. At the Jamboree, she will perform with the trio of Fred Wesley’s drummer Tony Match. Born in Pennsylvania, King possesses an innate talent which first came to light when she discovered jazz as a teenager, and, more specifically, the great voices in the history of jazz and r ‘n’ b, at the hands of the saxophonist Sam Reed. Since then, King has worked with musicians like Sam Dougherty, Cecil Payne, Lex Humphries, Christian McBride and, most particularly, Dexter Wansel, with whom he has been working for more than 20 years. Denise King has travelled half the world with a show in which she upholds the essence of unpretentious vocal jazz, in the style of the great divas of the jazz tradition.
