Swing is enjoying a golden age here at the moment, with plenty of fans and, above all, a new generation of performers in the genre. Like the Swing Cats, a group who, in 2016, put out a celebrated debut album Saphie Wells & The Swing Cats (Taller de Músics) and who have performed at festivals like the Mas i Mas, Vijazz, Grec, Torreilles (France), Jazzing Sant Andreu, Costa Brava and La Mercè in Barcelona. The band is led by the Peruvian Saphie Wells, one of the most versatile, seductive voices in Barcelona jazz, with a long career in all kinds of line-ups. With the Swing Cats, her most personal project, Wells not only brilliantly recreates the work of the great jazz composers of the thirties and forties – Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and even Chet Baker – this time she also adds Christmas pieces, sung to the swing rhythm, of course.
