Saxophonist, arranger, composer, session player and teacher, Don Menza (Buffalo, USA, 1936) stands out, among other merits, for his participation in such emblematic orchestras as those of Maynard Fergurson (1960-.1962), Stan Kenton and Buddy Rich ( 1968). His is the famous solo, using the circular breathing technique, in the “Chanel One Suite” that the renowned drummer recorded with his band, live, in Las Vegas. Menza has also worked, from California, where he settled in the late 1960s, with artists such as Elvin Jones, Hank Jones, Henry Mancini, Conte Candoli, Nathalie Cole, George Duke, Pat Boone and even Leonard Cohen. . As a composer, he is the author of two pieces, “Groovin’ Hard” and “Time Check”, performed by Buddy Rich’s big band and which have become classics in the repertoire of many music schools. As a solo artist, he has released twelve albums on labels such as Verve, Saba, Real Time, Palo Alto and Barcelona’s Fresh Sound. A jazz legend steps onto the Jamboree stage.
