“Andrew!!” A tribute to Andrew Hill
Simona Premazzi piano, Masa Kamaguchi double bass, Luca Santaniello drums.
From New York comes the Italian pianist Simona Premazzi, a follower of Franco D’Andrea and Massimo Colombo in her own country and based in the Big Apple since 2004. Premazzi has worked with the likes of Greg Osby, Jeremy Pelt, Ben Monder, Melissa Aldana, Tineke Postma, Billy Drummond and JD Allen. As a solo artist, she has released albums such as Looking For an Exit (2007), a trio with Ari Hoening and Joe Sanders, and Outspoken (2017), together with Dayna Stephens, Joe Martin, Nasheet Waits, Jeremy Pelt and Sara Serpa. Other works, such as The Lucid Dreamer (2013), earned the praise of Ben Ratliff (New York Times), the world’s leading jazz critic. Ratliff said: “Her composing style stays modern without ever being airless and swing-deficient, open without getting lost in harmony and sentimentality. And her soloing is special.” Premazzi is undoubtedly a musician of recognised prestige, also considered “one of the more exciting and poignant pianists on the current New York scene” (Hot House Jazz Magazine).
