Magnolia is a velvety and at the same time furious jazz quartet, with a repertoire of their own authorship rooted in the tradition of vocal jazz. Their first work, ‘That’s a Plenty’ (Temps Record, 2015), recorded live at the Jamboree, showed a festive spirit and preceded the group’s collaboration in the film ‘The Chosen One’ (2016), by Antonio Chavarrias. In 2019 they published ‘The Joint’s Too Hip For Me’ (Swing Alley), with a selection of songs that draw on the blues tradition, in the lyrics, in the irony and vocal personality of Myriam Swanson, and that talk about topics such as failed relationships, inevitable mistakes, romantic love and the joy of life, with its wonderful conflicts. Music inspired by the universe of Broadway, where cinema and jazz go hand in hand, with titles like ‘To Send My Love’. ‘Get Out The Door’ and ‘This Joint’s Too Hip For Me’, a piece also by Betty Hall Jones that promotes a meeting between blues and jazz – and classical jazz with modern jazz – as the Magnolia quartet rightly defends .
