Adrián Royo Trio

Adrián Royo piano · Manel Fortià doublebass · Gonzalo del Val drums.

Adrián Royo, young composer and pianist graduated from the Liceu Conservatory, presents the album ‘Pangea’ (Gaztelupeko Hotsak) at the Jamboree, as a trio and with two big names from the Barcelona scene: Manel Fortià, double bassist, and Gonzalo del Val, drummer and son of the same town as Royo. As a creator, the musician from Miranda de Ebro is inspired by the tradition of contemporary piano-jazz. ‘Pangea’ is based on the homonymous macrocontinent. As if it were a symbol, ‘Pangea’ appeals “to a single root,” according to the album’s notes, “to, in the end, spread out and seek contact with other beings, with other places, with new sounds and experiences,” he adds. “The journey is what really matters,” the text continues, “to travel a thousand musical paths in eight delicate compositions.” In this sense, the critic Cándido Querol (B-Ritmos), uncovers the many influences, details and climatic variations that include ‘Pangea’, and compares Royo’s style with that of Sbjörn Svensson and the Galician Sumrrá. He also concludes with the following prediction: “I feel that we will hear a lot of good things about this Adrián Royo.”
