The new generations from our jazz scene are astonishing us with exciting ideas, like those of the trumpeter Alba Careta. Born in Avinyó (El Bages), Careta began her jazz trumpet studies at the ESMUC in Barcelona and completed them at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague, where she formed her own group. At the Jamboree, she will release her first album, Orígens, winner by popular vote of the Enderrock Award in 2018 for Best Jazz Album. The quintet basically draws on its leader’s compositions, including everything from uncompromising tunes to delicate songs. Careta acknowledges the influences of Ambrose Akinmusire, Tigran Hamasyan and Omer Avital. In her concerts, she also likes to blend her music with traditional Catalan songs, a formula enjoyed by audiences at clubs such as Nova Jazz Cava in Terrassa, the Sunset in Girona, the Bimhaus in Amsterdam and the Hot Clube in Lisbon.
