Albert Cirera, from Igualada, is one of the most outstanding saxophonists of his generation, a musician determined to understand the current jazz scene and one of the driving forces behind free improvisation in Catalonia during the last decade. Cirera has been able to develop a solid career in and outside Catalonia and has been very active on several international scenes. On the album ‘Aquella cosa’ (Underpool, 2022), he rediscovers a series of old compositions which he has recorded with a new septet. With this group of musicians he enjoys the kind of close cooperation he needs to construct a language with room for melodies, grooves and improvisations, but he also experiments with sounds, forms and textures. Albert Cirera is a mature musician capable of expressing himself comfortably in any of the musical registers he has cultivated and demonstrating that music is a matter of experience rather than style. Cirera and Kamarilla play music in its pure state and that is good for laughter, dancing and the very breath of life.
