Americana Barcelona Presents: Charlie Sexton
Charlie Sexton, raised in Austin, Texas, made his debut with Pictures For Pleasure in 1985 at just 16 years old. He quickly became known as a guitar prodigy and spent his teenage years as an in-demand session musician. He has recorded and toured with legendary names such as Ron Wood, Keith Richards, and Bob Dylan.
In addition to his musical career, Sexton has appeared in several films, including the Academy Award-winning Boyhood by Richard Linklater, as well as portraying Townes Van Zandt in the movie Blaze.
As a songwriter, Sexton writes about what he knows. Growing up among the greats, his lyrics blend autobiographical experiences with vivid images of Texas culture. He credits Bob Dylan as his strongest songwriting influence, while his guitar style draws from Austin legends Jimmie Vaughan and the late Stevie Ray Vaughan. Staying true to his roots, Sexton continues to perform with top artists. In recent years, he has toured, played, and recorded with Elvis Costello, Lucinda Williams, and Bob Dylan.
Sexton is currently on a solo tour of Europe, joined by special guest singer-songwriter Calder Allen. Allen has toured with some of the biggest names in country and Americana music, including Cody Jinks, Wade Bowen, Miranda Lambert, Turnpike Troubadours, The Red Clay Strays, Shane Smith & The Saints, Charles Wesley Godwin, and more. He has also performed at major festivals, including Austin City Limits, Bonnaroo, Two Step Inn, Oceans Calling, and many others.
