Singer-songwriter and jazz vocalist, Angela Grey, holds no punches. Originally from New York City, Angela brings a very natural simplicity to her storytelling in a genre known for being heavy and esoteric. Raised between Manhattan and Manila, free-spirited and joyful, her distinct voice has been compared to the “Queen of Blues,” Dinah Washington.
Released in April 2024 with a 4-star review from Soul Bag magazine (June 2024) and praised by French author Frédéric Adrian, Angela’s debut album features two of her original songs and six jazz standards, including “Evil Gal Blues,” “You’re Getting to Be a Habit With Me,” and the title track, “Prisoner of Love.” Now based in France, Angela has become a regular on the Paris jazz scene, frequently performing at the renowned club Duc Des Lombards. Her album pays tribute to the musical greats of the past who shaped her, both in her original songs and in the beloved jazz standards.
Recorded in the heart of Paris at Zoot Studios (Peter Bernstein, Kirk Lightsey, Steve Williams), her quartet is inspired by the Nat King Cole Trio, featuring piano, guitar, and double bass. Prisoner of Love was created with an international team, including mixing by Matt Mysko (ex-Abbey Road Studios) and mastering by Martin Ruch (Sony Classical, Universal Music, WeJazz).
