Benjamin Herman – Nostalgia Blitz
Benjamin Herman sax · Thomas Pol bass · Jimmi Hueting drums.
Saxophonist and “musical omnivore,” as he defines himself on his website, the Dutchman Benjamín Herman is one of the most relevant musicians of his generation. Not in vain, he has a long and fruitful career: 50 albums to his name, alone and with the New Cool Collective project, and a long list of performances around the world. A versatile and restless musician, his creative universe encompasses countless styles: from the most classic jazz to punk-jazz, passing through manouche jazz, film music, Afrobeat and the interpretation of the work of Misha Mengelberg; in addition to collaborations with singers, poets, pop artists, hip hop and other genres. As an instrumentalist, he stands out for his personal and unequivocal record. At the Jamboree, where he has performed several times, on this occasion he will present the album ‘Nostalgia Blitz’ (Dox, 2023), a twist in his career. With groundbreaking aesthetics, it amalgamates the style of the great saxophonists of popular music of the 80s—James Chance, John Lurie, Xero Slingsby, Hans Dulfer and others—with that of the totems of the jazz saxophone; a conceptual challenge that it overcomes with flying colors.
