Saxophonist, composer, and arranger, the Hispanic-Dutch Bernard van Rossum leads a quartet with his own compositions, featuring evocative, picturesque, lyrical, melodic, and rhythmically compelling music. The lineup includes accomplished Catalan musicians with brilliant careers: pianist Xavi Torres, bassist Joan Comaposada, and drummer Joan Terol. In addition to leading this quartet, Van Rossum is known for directing the acclaimed BvR Flamenco Big Band, with three recorded albums and collaborators such as Carles Benavent, Antonio Serrano, and David de Jacoba. According to the prestigious digital platform All About Jazz, Bernard van Rossum’s arrangements and “attractive compositions” convey “sharpness and authenticity.”
