The Mas i Mas 2024 kicks off with a bang, featuring a group composed of the best of contemporary fusion jazz. Leading this quartet is saxophonist Bill Evans, known, among other merits, for being part of Miles Davis’s last electric ensemble. Evans has set a precedent, as has keyboardist John Medeski, a member of the legendary trio Medeski, Martin & Wood. On the other hand, Felix Pastorius is the son of bass virtuoso Jaco Pastorius. As a session musician, he has worked with David Byrne, Cindy Blackman, Carlos Santana, The Yellowjackets, and others. Finally, drummer Keith Carlock has showcased his artistry with Steely Dan, John Mayer, and Sting. Together, they form a “clever, contemporary, and powerful” quartet, according to critics; an unprecedented, rhythmic, energetic group with magnetic melodies and a range of influences spanning from soul to jazz, through funk and pop. “We’ve played in different projects, and now we’re thrilled to be able to come together on stage,” says saxophonist Evans. Surely, the audience descending the stairs of the Jamboree will be delighted too.
