When he was a child, Camille would hear his older brother, Matthieu, practicing scales on his cello, and it seemed strange to him, like a ritual that no one else could access… Over the years, each of them developed their own relationship with music, their own vision—one moving towards song, the other towards jazz and world music. Gradually, a new shared space began to take shape, as if threads were intertwining to create a path they could explore together. A path of strings, of course—cello strings and vocal cords. Strings so similar that they blend, adjust, and merge with magic.
In this new project, the two brothers build bridges between their musical universes to bring forth a new sonic territory: a sensitive, ethereal, and infinite space… Here, oriental, jazz, and blues influences intertwine, as in their moving rendition of ‘Strange Fruit’, alongside a lyrical world shaped by Matthieu’s virtuosic bow and Camille’s hypnotic voice.
Thanks to the sampler, the cello multiplies before the audience’s eyes, creating rich and colorful soundscapes. This process allows the duo to become a quartet, or even almost an orchestra, as the range of possibilities is limitless. Sometimes pizzicato like a guitar or bass line, sometimes bowed like a string quartet, or filled with free improvisation—this is how Matthieu’s multifaceted sound unfolds.
At the heart of this musical fabric is Camille’s voice, capable of leading listeners into the heights of a countertenor with imaginary language, improvising by mimicking the timbre of a trumpet, or surprising with songs in English, Bambara, French, or Spanish.
The repertoire of Camille and Matthieu Saglio is as unclassifiable as it is magnetic, taking the audience on an inner and spiritual journey, guided by the deep connection between the two brothers.
