CHARLES MCPHERSON ‘80th BIRTHDAY TOUR, CELEBRATION OF A JAZZ LEGEND’ - Jamboree Jazz

A jazz legend comes to the Plaça Reial club to celebrate his 80th birthday. For more than a decade, Charles McPherson played alto sax with Charles Mingus’s band (1960-72). Other highlights of his prolific career include collaborations with George Coleman, Lionel Hampton, Wynton Marsalis, Dizzy Gillespie, Randy Brecker and even Clint Eastwood, as musical advisor on Bird, the well-known film dedicated to Charlie Parker. As a solo artist, McPherson has released extraordinary albums on leading labels like Prestige, Fantasy and Quadrant. According to New York Times critic Stanley Crouch, McPherson is “a singular voice who has never sacrificed his fluency as a creator of melodies”. He added: “(He is) a master thoroughly respected by all generations”, for example the fantastic performers who will accompany him at the Jamboree.
