Chris Cheek headlines another of the highlights of this Mas i Mas 2024, a true event considering the return to Barcelona of one of the most influential musicians in contemporary jazz. Born in Saint Louis (Missouri, USA, 1968), Chris Cheek was educated at Berklee, where he studied under Herb Pomeroy and Hal Crook, among others, and was a traveling companion of Jordi Rossy and a group of musicians —Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mark Turner, Ben Monder, Steve Cardenas, and others— who were also instrumental in revitalizing the jazz scene. As a sideman, he has collaborated with Paul Motian, Guillermo Klein, Brad Mehldau, Steve Swallow, Miguel Zenón, and Catalan artists such as Elisabet Raspall and Bridges Trio, among many others. As a solo artist, he has released several albums, some of them with the Barcelona-based label Fresh Sound. In quintet settings, he has released albums like ‘Saturday Night’ (2015), featuring versatile Barcelona guitarist David Soler, Steve Cardenas, and multi-instrumentalist Jordi Rossy. They will perform at the Jamboree, with the addition of another great exponent of the six-string instrument: Jaume Llombart. A combo, undoubtedly, of the highest caliber.
