Clarence Bekker’s great gift is that he can reach the soul of anyone who hears him. With his deep, magnetic, vibrant voice he is a worthy heir to the repertoire of the great masters from the history of soul, funk and pop. In his long career, he has played with bands like 08001 and has achieved amazing successes, like his version of “Stand by Me”, played millions of times on the internet, and taking part in the international Playing for Change. With the Clarence Bekker Band, which he founded in 2016, the Surinamese musician has brought together some of the best performers in Barcelona. He has toured half the world, including Europe, Australia, Morocco and Brazil, and recorded an acclaimed CD Changes (Jazz Activist, 2020), which confirms him as one of the great soul, funk and r ‘n’ b acts of our times. Bekker was one of the first artists to give a concert with an audience in the middle of phase two of the pandemic. That was at his home from home, the Jamboree, where, week after week, he sweeps all before him.
