This project and album, led by Dani Pérez, one of the great guitarists on the Spanish jazz scene, stemmed from the need to bring to life a series of compositions written as if they were variations on jazz standards. Once the journey began, Pérez and company travelled through their creative universe with no other frontier than the reference point of origin of each of the chosen pieces. The game would then consist of promoting modifications of a melodic, rhythmic, harmonic, formal and even stylistic nature. To carry out this musical expedition, Dani Pérez’s trio had the valuable cooperation of trumpeter Benet Palet, forming a first-class de facto quartet. According to cultural activist Josep Mestres, Dani Pérez is “a maker of ideas, a drawer of itineraries that we would never have been able to recognise, and a pointer of apparently simple phrases loaded with an explicit immensity”.
