“She is the most creative and seductive singer and pianist after Shirley Horn.” The statement is from critic Joel Siegel (Washington City) and describes one of the most important artists in vocal jazz today. Her name is Dena Derose and she is walking down the stairs of the Jamboree for the first time. Born in Binghamton (New York, USA) in 1966, she cultivated her passion for jazz in New York, listening to Hank Jones, Mulgrew Miller and Kenny Barron. Chance, an injury, prevented him from pursuing a career solely as a pianist. He then discovered his ability as a singer and keyboardist at the same time and, at the beginning of the nineties, he became a true revelation of jazz in the city of skyscrapers. A deep-toned vocalist, lover of the glorious tradition of sung jazz, Dena Derose has attracted the attention of musicians such as Ray Brown, Benny Golson, Clark Terry, Jimmy Cobb, Phil Woods, Slide Hampton and John Scofield, with whom she has collaborated. Solo, he has released nine albums, greeted by critics and fans. Dena Derose is without a doubt a first-class singer.
