Eddie Henderson Quartet - Jamboree Jazz

Eddie Henderson trumpet, Arnie Somogyi bass, Matyas Gayer piano, Stephen Keogh drums.

Trumpeter Eddie Henderson is a true legend: a musician comparable to the greats of jazz history. Born in 1940 in New York, he received his first trumpet lesson from Louis Armstrong at the age of nine. This is not as surprising as it might seem, as his stepfather was a doctor whose patients included Duke Ellington, John Coltrane and Miles Davis. Henderson’s big break came in the early 1970s, in Herbie Hancock’s Mwandishi sextet. Later, he worked with Pharoah Sanders, Norman Connors and Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. He has also played with Elvin Jones, Johnny Griffin, Slide Hampton, McCoy Tyner, Benny Golson, Max Roach, Jackie McClean, Dexter Gordon, Roy Haynes, Joe Henderson, Pharoah Sanders and a long list of others, as well as releasing some excellent solo work. At the Jamboree, where he has performed several times, he will play this time as part of a first-class quartet, made up of European musicians spanning several generations.
