Eva Verde and Danilo Tarso release their first discographic work titled CHRYSALIS. Eva, a well-known Catalan singer in the Barcelona music scene, meets the pianist Danilo during her residency in Italy. Danilo is the winner of the Lelio Luttazzi Award 2019 as the best young Italian jazz pianist. CHRYSALIS is a piano and voice jazz album, full of eclecticism and multilingualism. It consists of original compositions complemented by arrangements of classics from the popular tradition that have accompanied the duo during their growth as artists. The main influences range from jazz and singer-songwriter music to chamber music and folk music. Virtuosic melodies with lyrics in Catalan and Spanish alternate with more lyrical ones in Italian and English songs inspired by American singer-songwriters. Danilo’s piano compositions, originally instrumental, are transformed into songs with lyrics crafted specifically by Eva; Eva’s songs find a new chamber dimension for voice and piano, evoking the tradition of Romantic lieder. CHRYSALIS, meaning chrysalis, is the final stage of metamorphosis in which the butterfly finds the right moment to emerge into the outside world. It is forced to wait and observe the world from within, a world of uncertain colors and undefined shapes. A perspective that makes you question whether it is a dream or reality. It is precisely in this phase where Eva Verde and Danilo Tarso find themselves today, ready to shed their chrysalis and launch into the world with their music, knowing that there is no turning back and that it is never as it seems.
