Fran Ramos is a young saxophonist making waves in the Barcelona jazz scene with his debut album “Space Species.” After an extensive career in various projects such as Giulia Valle Ensemble, Félix Rossy Quintet, Toni Vaquer Big Band with Davis Whitefield, and Gorka Benítez trio, or Liceu Jazz Group with Perico Sambeat, Fran takes on composition, leading this young and promising jazz sextet.
A project that transports us to the jazz experimentation happening in Europe and the USA but under the influences of southern music, such as flamenco, Latin, or rock, born from his experiences with Juanito Makandé, El Canijo de Jerez, Reincidentes, or Carlos Sarduy. A down-to-earth sound, seen in its more folkloric aspect, combined with years of jazz study creates a galactic atmosphere called “Space Species.”
This album gives its name to the group and embraces all the styles, artists, people, and universes with whom Fran Ramos has engaged on stage.
