This group brings together the Swedish tenor saxophonist Fredrik Carlquist, the Japanese double bassist Masa Kamaguchi, and the Catalan drummer Ivo Sans, established in Barcelona. Since 2014, Carlquist has often played in different line-ups with the musicians who form the rhythm section of this trio. “Although I had never led a band with this line-up, I have always felt at home with the boys who have accompanied me,” says Carlquist himself, adding: “With them [Kamaguchi and Sans], I have always felt I could take a step forward and play in the line of the great heroes of the saxophone – those musicians who once pushed me to become a first and foremost a jazz musician.” What we have here, then is a top-class line-up: a group who will perform their own tunes, Swedish melodies and other songs Fredrik Carlquist likes as a basis for encouraging improvisation. The concert will also be recorded.
