Gonzalo del Val, from Miranda, is one of the most outstanding drummers on the Spanish scene. In his extensive career he has worked with figures like Dave Liebman, Stéphane Belmondo, Marc Miralta, Víctor de Diego, Jordi Bonell, Horacio Fumero, Albert Bover and Joan Albert Amargós. As a solo artist, he has released a brilliant album, much appreciated by the critics and even the hardest-to-please fans, which made an impact in countries like France – “one of the best representatives of the contemporary Spanish scene” (So Jazz) – and the USA – front cover and big feature in All About Jazz. His discography includes albums like Koiné (FSNT, 2016), a trio with Marco Mezquida and David Mengual; Standards in Dublin (Quadrant, 2018), with Dave Liebman; and Cancionero (2020), best jazz album in the Enderrock Awards. At Mas i Mas ‘22, he will present a new album, Tornaviaje, recorded with a new line-up completed by two greats from our jazz scene, Raynald Colom and Manel Fortià, and one from France: Romain Pilon.
