From Amsterdam comes this octet representing the best of new European jazz. Led by Israeli-born drummer Guy Salamon, it features performers of various origins, including the Catalans Irene Reig, Lucas Martínez and Xavi Torres. Salamon leads a band with pieces of his own and a style based on exploration, hybridisation and the search for a balance between “a mixture of folk music, wild improvisation, ‘visual music’ and comforting humour”. The Dutch newspaper NRC described their approach as “kaleidoscopic and insanely brilliant,” with compositions “ranging from swing to punk to polka”. So far, with this unique formula, the Guy Salamon Group has won the Keep An Eye competition, one of the most prestigious in the world reserved for emerging bands, and has performed at leading events, such as the North Sea Festival and the Jazzahead fair!
