Sara Dowling & Ignasi Terraza Torra - Jamboree Jazz
Jazz
Sara Dowling & Ignasi Terraza Torra
Sara Dowling vocals · Ignasi Terraza piano · Esteve Pi drums · Dario Di Lecce doublebass.
The British Sarah Dowling is considered one of the most talented jazz singers in Europe and, of course, in her own country. She won the Best Vocalist award at the 2019 British Jazz Awards. With roots in Palestine and Ireland, Dowling went to Manchester as a cellist before discovering her vocation as a singer and songwriter. With an expressive and magnetic voice, her style draws influences from Betty Carter, Sarah Vauhgan and Anita O’Day, among others, but with an obvious personality of her own. Solo, he has recorded albums praised by the most demanding critics – “His style is enviable” (Jazz Journal), “An extraordinary and unique voice” (Jazz Views) – and has worked with pianists of the stature of Gabriel Latchin and Bruce Barth. At the Jamboree, he will sing with another prominent name in piano jazz, Ignasi Terraza, one of the national jazz players with the most international exposure. Influenced by Oscar Peterson and Ahmad Jamal, among others, Terraza treasures a virtuoso, rhythmic, sensitive and expressive style of his own. As a sideman and soloist, he has played with some of the biggest names in jazz—Johnny Griffin, Frank Wess, Lou Donaldson and many others. Sarah Dowling and the Ignasi Terraza Trio—completed by the equally excellent Esteve Pi and Dario Di Lecce—star in a first-class encounter in the basement of Plaça Reial.
