With his bright and powerful register, the Swede with roots in Turkey Ilhan Ersahin has been labelled the “Warhol of the sax”. Highlights of his career include composing pieces for Norah Jones and Gilberto Gil. Together with his group, Istanbul Sessions, Ersahin has popped up at some of the best-known festivals in the world. With a formula combining the wild energy of fusion jazz with elements of world music, in 2018 Ilhan Ersahin’s Istanbul Sessions released the successful album Solar Plexus, a fusion jazz CD which included collaborations with well-known figures like Erik Truffaz, Ibrahim Maalouf, Nils Peter Molvaer and Dave Harringon. The recording of a new album is planned for 2020. Ersahin is also known for owning three jazz clubs in New York.
