Joao del Monte is a multifaceted artist from the Barcelona Cuban community who has spiced up his creative universe with elements from film and dance, and, of course, with different musical styles. In fact, his music mixes funk, soul and hip-hop, with nods towards other genres including rumba, flamenco and Cuban sounds. It’s an amalgam of colours from today and yesterday in free, kaleidoscopic music that’s very much his own. He brings together the power of Cuban music with contemporary styles from elsewhere to create something with plenty of energy and flavour. At the Jamboree, “El del Monte” will present his most recent album, including tracks like “Cuarentena pal Pingón” deal with a subject as topical as COVID-19. What better way to start the year?
