Jazz Watusi, Dani Nel·lo’s programme on iCat, broadcast on Sundays at 9pm, presents a cycle of special concerts with some of the most outstanding names on the jazz scene here.
This time the trumpeter David Pastor pays tribute to the great Dizzy Gillespie to mark the centenary of his birth. In the company of an exceptional quintet, Pastor submerges himself in Gillespie’s imagination to recreate the agility and sharpness of the language championed by this essential figure in the history of jazz who was no more or less than one of the fathers of bebop and Latin jazz. Dizzy Gillespie’s charisma and creativity are the source of inspiration to create a show in which bebop flows frenetic and free in the hands of one of the best trumpeters on the European scene. Based on respect and admiration, but also with a contemporary sheen, the Valencian David Pastor relives the melodies and harmonies of a man who was undoubtedly one of the driving forces of the evolution of jazz.
