DIEGO AMADOR “Flamenco Free Jazz”
Diego Amador piano, Rafa Díaz bass, Israel Varela drums.
Born in Seville in 1973, the younger brother of Raimundo and Rafael Amador (Pata Negra) is a musician who is both a pianist and cantaor, and also a flamenco who vindicates jazz as a “second musical language.” Diego Amador performs and composes in both genres, and is a frequent performer in trio formation. Known as “the gypsy Ray Charles”, he made his solo debut at the age of 19 with the endorsement of Ricardo Pachón, producer of ‘La leyenda del tiempo’. In subsequent works, he left his mark with a unique style of playing the piano as if it were a flamenco guitar, and with a superb voice as a singer. Latin Grammy nominee for the album ‘Río de canasteros’ (2008), Amador has worked with figures of the category of Camarón de la Isla, El Cigala, Tomatito, Abraham Laboriel, Álex Acuña, Pat Metheny, Chick Corea and even Alejandro Sanz and Oscar D’Leon, with whom he recorded the album ‘Soy de las 3000’ (2016). Other titles include ‘Piano jondo’ (2003), ‘Scherzo flamenco’ (2013) and Vivir (2019), praised by the most demanding critics. Amador has performed at jazz festivals such as those of Vitoria, Vienne and San Javier, and at the Jamboree, where he has triumphed with unforgettable sessions.
