This project began in the middle of the pandemic lockdown, when Mef and Chien Chine decided to join forces to play, perform virtual concerts and compose together. From that experience came the idea of co-leading a new group with a repertoire of cover versions. However, during the creation process they felt the need to reflect on phenomena such as the Black Lives Matter and Stop Asian Hate movements, and other social and political issues. Connected brings together two artists from opposite geographical extremes, but with common yearnings and concerns. “We live connected,” they say, and the collaborative album they’ve put out is “the most organic and natural one we’ve ever done”.
