The big band enthusiast, multi-instrumentalist and teacher Joan Chamorro is not only known for being the driving force behind the Sant Andreu Big Band – a school for many of the new figures on our jazz scene. He is also on first-name terms with contemporary jazz greats. One of these is Joe Magnarelli, a trumpeter from the New York jazz scene who was a member of Lionel Hampton’s orchestra (1987-89) and has worked with Harry Connick Jr., Maria Schneider, Grant Stewart and la Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, among others. Magnarelli will get together with Joan Chamorro’s group – partly formed by young musicians from the Sant Andreu youth system – to play a series of pieces almost all arranged by Joan Monné. The concert will be recorded with the intention of making an album in 2020.
