Drummer of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band for over 30 years, Joe Lastie hails from a prominent New Orleans musical family (his grandfather, Frank Lastie, was the first to play drums in gospel churches). Over his career, Lastie has performed alongside legendary musicians such as Fats Domino, Professor Longhair, Irma Thomas, Pete Fountain, and Allen Toussaint, and was part of the Broadway musical One Mo’ Time with Topsy Chapman.
“When Lastie sits at the drums, enthusiasm rises, along with humor, swing, and a fullness of sound.” — The New York Times
On his second Spanish tour, Lastie presents his latest album, “Nola by Spain”, recorded in New Orleans in November 2024 with Carlos Childe. This album preserves the rich tradition of New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz, rooted in African percussion.
