For over 30 years, Joe Lastie was the drummer for the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. He comes from a long lineage of musicians—his grandfather, Frank Lastie, was the first to play drums in gospel services. Lastie has accompanied great music figures like Fats Domino, Professor Longhair, Irma Thomas, Pete Fountain, Allen Toussaint, and others. He also participated in the Broadway musical ‘One Mo Time’ with Topsy Chapman. In Barcelona, he will present his latest album, ‘Jazz Corner of the World’, where he explores the city that birthed jazz, New Orleans, delving into the origins of this genre through African percussion, its tradition, and some of its most illustrious figures: Louis Armstrong, Lou Prima, and Sidney Bechet, among others. At Jamboree, he will perform with a sextet, including Carlos Childe on vocals and banjo, a regular in the New Orleans club circuit, like Lastie himself, with whom he recorded the album ‘Where Y’at’. “When Lastie sits at the drums, enthusiasm grows, as does the sense of humor, swing, and fullness of sound,” said the New York Times about this essential figure in classic jazz.
