Presentation of the album ‘Oblivion’ (2023)
Jordi Berni is one of the great pianists of his generation, winner of the Barcelona Jazz Contest in 2005, among other merits. At the Jamboree he presents a new album, ‘Oblivion’, which includes a selection of his own compositions and a version of the famous ballad of the same name by Astor Piazzolla. Two different rhythmic bases participated in the recording sessions, in addition to the collaboration of saxophonist Santi de la Rubia on a ballad. The group’s style is faithful to hardbop, with influences ranging from McCoy Tyner to Mulgrew Miller, passing through Kenny Barron, Dave Kikoski and others. At the Jamboree, Berni will play alongside Rai Ferrer and Xavi Maureta, two musicians with a long and fruitful career. Both participated in the recording of the album, which implies a perfect accompaniment to shape Berni’s music, with large doses of energy, poise, lyricism, rhythm and inspiration. A first-class piano-trio.
