JULIEN BERTRAND QUINTET - Jamboree Jazz

Julien Bertrand trumpet & bugle, Liam Szimonyk alto sax, Étienne Deconfin piano, François Gallix double bass, Arthur Declercq drums.

French trumpeter Julien Bertrand leads a quintet with a style that is “totally oriented towards modernity,” he explains, meaning that it is influenced by artists such as Ambrose Akinmusire, Wallace Roney and Roy Hargrove, with nods to soul, hip-hop and other genres. Bertrand’s approach has won over the most demanding critics. Jazz Magazine and Jazz UK, for example, both referred to his second album as a “revelation”. The CD in question is called ‘Free Revolution Zone’ and was released in 2019 on the Fresh Sound label. Bertrand returns to the Catalan capital this year to record his third album with the Barcelona label. Coinciding with the recording, Bertrand and his boys will drop in at the Jamboree to offer the city a unique concert in the city: an opportunity to discover an emerging figure from the French jazz scene – one of the most dynamic and prestigious in Europe.
