Exciting Cumbia from Mexico and Beyond!

The roots of Kumbia Boruka lie in Monterrey, the cumbia capital of Mexico, where Hernán Cortés, the band’s accordionist and leader, grew up. Not only did he learn to play the accordion from the Mexican cumbia legend Celso Piña, but he was also a percussionist in Piña’s band during extensive international tours.

In addition to their own contemporary and festive compositions, the band brings fresh flavors to classic cumbias from the 1960s, blending them with influences from reggae, dub, African music, and rock, featuring psychedelic electric guitar melodies, an expansive rhythm section, and powerful, electrifying brass arrangements.

The result is a hybrid cumbia, a new cumbia, infused with fierce Latin energy.

With three albums and over 400 shows, Kumbia Boruka has succeeded in making the Old Continent dance to the emblematic rhythm of Latin America—Cumbia.

Kumbia Boruka is a true and powerful cure for the troubles of our times.
