Laura Simó & Ignasi Terraza Trio
Laura Simó vocals · Ignasi Terraza piano · Horacio Fumero double bass · Esteve Pi drums.
The singer Laura Simó and the Ignasi Terraza Trio, consisting of Horacio Fumero and Esteve Pi, reunite at Jamboree to reminisce about Simó’s encounter with Tete Montoliu’s trio in 1994. Swit Records has recovered this historic recording with the CD ‘Together Again.’ On stage, Laura Simó and the Ignasi Terraza Trio will evoke the playful style, filled with complicity, which, in the purest bebop style, always characterized the great master Tete Montoliu. The CD features a performance by Montoliu’s regular trio, with Horacio Fumero and Peer Wyboris, and singer Laura Simo at the Calella Jazz Festival. It is the only testimony of that collaboration, where we can hear Montoliu with his characteristic sound, halfway between the generosity and continuous creativity of his ideas, and the tension of silences, in addition to harmonic interventions that remind us so much of his admired Monk, with whom he identified in the last years of his life. Alongside him, the singer Laura Simó emerges with great confidence and strength, demonstrating that even then she was mature enough to take on the challenge of singing with that trio. The recording also allows us to extensively hear the late drummer Peer Wyboris and bassist Horacio Fumero, with generous spaces for both musicians to shine.
