McKinley Dixon – Magic, Alive!
For nearly a decade, McKinley Dixon has been transforming his experiences as a native Southerner, sometimes living in Queens, and a devoted student of literature, into profound reflections on joy, pain, and perseverance. His breakthrough came with For My Mama and Anyone Who Look Like Her (2021) and continued with Beloved! Paradise! Jazz!? (2023), both instrumentally rich, narrative-driven albums exploring grief, trauma, and personal loss.
With Magic, Alive!, Dixon continues this journey, telling the story of three friends grappling with the death of their best companion. The album explores questions of life, mortality, and the very nature of magic — whether it is the miraculous, the everyday escapes, or the invisible forces that guide human connection and hope. Blending literary references, personal introspection, and innovative musicality, Dixon offers an immersive and thought-provoking experience that celebrates resilience, imagination, and the transformative power of storytelling.
This concert is for individuals aged +18 years old.
