The New Yorker Michael Kanan is one of the top rated pianists on the international scene. There are good reasons why. He has played with Lee Konitz, Tal Farlow, Al Cohn and worked alongside Kurt Rosenwinkel, Nat Su, Mark Turner and Jorge Rossy. In trio format, accompanied by two admirers, Horacio Fumero and Guillem Arnedo, Kanan presents the album they recorded together two summers ago: Love Them Madly (Jazz Granollers, 2018). Kanan, Foster and Arnedo, who met at the Begues Jazz Camp more than a decade ago, decided to found a “no-frills jazz” trio, as the great Cifu would have said. Kanan himself summarises the groups idiosyncrasies with these words: “There is space, swing, surprises and lots of love,” he says, adding “We have tried to capture the spontaneity of the moment in time. So it’s a good conversation between the three of us.”
